Re: New Pants
03/07Amazingly, I had a flood of reactions to this simple post: what does he like to dance in? Stretchy? Long? Capri? Thick? Thin? Hemp? Elastic waist? Drawstring? Colors? Neutral? What..? Then I thought, is it so obvious what the "uniform" of contact improv is that he didn't really need to specify?
That said, I found dance pants of the flared-leg "tights" variety from One Step Ahead (around $50) work for me, though I don't wear them exclusively. When it's warmer I definitely prefer a light cotton, loose fitting, drawstring pant. I currently wear either a pair of pirate striped pants I got from an eBay store that caters to renaissance faire types for about $20, or Thai fisherman pants in sturdy cotton from Thai'd-Up.com, in a bunch of colors for $15 or so.
As a result of my reaction, I'm curious to see what answers turn up!

Re: New Pants
03/07well, there is always Ellah Ray and her fabulous, every evolving array of dance pants (seen around the dance worlds, professional and non, on both coasts). she doesn't have a web site up at the moment, but you can get in touch with her at lorayme@hotmail.com
If you are looking for something really slinky, skin hugging, stretchy with flared bottoms and surger lines, you can get in touch with Mizu (look for her on my "friends" list).
You can also go to a martial arts supply store that sells uniforms for jiujitsu/aikido/judo and get grappler's uniform pants... really tough, thick cotton with reinforced kneas and lots of mobility. i love dancing in those! unfortuneately, they usually don't sell them seperately from the rest of the uniform. by chance, i was just looking into it, though, and
1)martialartsmart.com is having a 50% off sale on judo uniforms, so you can get one for $50
2)the aikido dojo in temescal (on telegraph, a few doors down from the temescal cafe in oakland) is having an introductory offer of $50 for a uniform and first 5 classes... can't beat that! (I happen to be sitting at the temescal cafe at the moment...)

03/08>>grin<<
I always figure the stripey pirate pants give me an extra foot of height during a big lift. Plus, I've been told they are photogenic (right, Moti?) so therefore I'm more likely to have my picture taken. Being a Leo, that's a good thing. -

Re: New Pants
03/13Oh yeah!! You know those stripedy pants just make me and my camera start clicking away, my dear Nataraj!
There are a few seemstresses roving in the contact world - one I know about besides the infamous forementioned Ella Ray is:
Kerstin Eyrich in Montreal.

Re: New Pants
03/07I have hand-dyed a bunch of Thai Fisherman pants. I love dancing in them and have some to spread around. Bright colors, cotton or rayon. I prefer cotton for dancing, but some folks like the rayon better. Rayon has a better drape but it isn't quite a strong. These ones have a tie around the waist and a pocket. $40 plus shipping. Almost any color you might dream of!
